What is microneedling?

The skin that we all want is hydrated, supple, smooth, free of wrinkles and has even color. Microneedling is one of many tools that we use at Alea Aesthetics Medical Spa to help you get the skin of your dreams. Microneedling, also known as a Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles (microneedling the skin) in order to induce the production of collagen. At Alea, we use the COSMOPen to achieve wonderful results.

How does it work?

By creating thousands of microscopic punctures in the skin, we increase the formation of new tissue through activating the body’s wound healing cascade. The microscopic punctures heal very quickly and in the healing process induce collagen production. Over time, the tissue is remolded and wrinkles, fine lines, light scarring, skin color/texture are all improved. See the illustration below for a bit more information.

benefits of microneedling

During a microneedling procedure, we deliver controlled non-surgical injury underneath the skin’s surface. By doing this we induce the skin to produce new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers (neo-collagenesis). We also induce the formation of new capillaries for an improved blood supply (neo-angiogenesis). The benefits include (but are not limited to):

  • Facial rejuvenation, restoring skin elasticity, production of new collagen

  • Improving acne scars and keloids.

  • Reducing fine lines and deep expression lines

  • Treating stretch marks

  • Decreasing hyperpigmentation and melasma

  • Treating alopecia

  • Improving the delivery of nutrients through the skin

How do I know if microneedling is for me?

Microneedling is minimally invasive procedure that is virtually painless (with the topical anesthetic applied beforehand) and has minimal downtime. It can be used on all skin types and is a valuable tool to treat a variety of skin concerns such as: facial rejuvenation, scarring (acne, surgical), stretch marks, pigmentation disorders and alopecia. Using the COSMOPen, we can deliver a variety of serums that fit your specific needs such as:
